Pediatric Assessments - Occupational Therapist's assess and treat children in the following areas:
Fine Motor: is defined as skills generally refer to the small movements of the hands, wrists, fingers, feet, toes, lips, and tongue.
Gross Motor: is defined as skills are the abilities required in order to control the large muscles of the body for walking, running, sitting, crawling, and other activities.
Visual Perception: is defined as the ability to interpret information and surroundings from the effects of visible light reaching the eye. The resulting perception is also known as eyesight, sight, or vision.
Visual Processing: is defined as the sequence of steps that information takes as it flows from visual sensors to cognitive processing.
Sensory Integration Treatment: an OT will evaluate the client and observe responses to various forms of sensory stimulation i.e. Posture, eye movement, coordination and balance. When the specific nature of the dysregulation is determined, a treatment plan is designed to address each individual area of concern. An OT introduces different sensory experiences gradually in order to help the patient adjust to the stimuli.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD): refers to the mental, physical, and emotional defects caused by alcohol or drug consumption during pregnancy.
